Chillums are pipes used by sadhus or wandering monks in India and is considered to be holy smoke by the sadhus and yogi baba Indian sub-continent. Chillums are also used by Rastafarians and other recreational smokers who smoke cannabis, opium, marijuana, tobacco and other herbs. Chillum is a conical pipe shaped instrument that is used since 18th century as pipes by sadhus.

Make sure the glass chillums you use are properly clean and tidy before you use. The ideal way to do this is rubbing the surface inside with a clean cloth. However, this method is not able to remove the bacteria from the inner surface of the chillums and thus this might result in infection of various sorts. The use of unclean chillums regularly might result in flu, sore throat and fever like symptoms. Thus, to minimize such situations, make sure that the chillums are soaked on a routine basis with hot bleached water. Rinse the apparatus thoroughly with clean water.  

The cleanliness of chillums is a must as repeated use of unclean chillums could result in transfer of bacteria and viruses to the users sharing the chillum. The highly prone material is wood and therefore the chillums fabricate using wood are highly susceptible to broadening the reach of infection. On the other hand, glass chillums are easy to clean and thus hold less chances of spreading infection.
